Ribera del Duero is home to some of the most highly appreciated of all Spanish wines and Anciano Crianza is an outstanding example. The extreme climate of the region and sandy clay, limestone soils result in an especially rich, bold style of Tempranillo. We have partnered with theArroyo family to create this award-winning wine (90 Points, Silver Medal International Wine Challenge).

Varietal: Tempranillo

Vintage: 2018

DO: Ribera Del Duero – Spain

Winemaker: Víctor Martínez

Winery: Bodega S. Arroyo

Mature Tempranillo vines are cultivated on the sunniest slopes of the village of Sotillo de la Ribera, a prime location and one of the highest positions in the heart of the region. The climate is continental-Atlantic with marked diurnal temperature changes. Spring and autumn frosts are frequent. This quite extreme climate helps develop the characteristics of Tempranillo, or “Tinta del País” as the varietal is known locally. After de-stemming, the grapes are sent directly to stainless steel tanks for maceration and daily stirring during fermentation with natural yeasts which takes at least 10 days. Following racking, when the solids are separated from the juice, a spontaneous second fermentation happens and during the cold winter months, the solids are decanted naturally. Firstly, the wine rests in barrels until the winemaker decides it is ready for bottling. The bottles are then matured in stable temperatures in the oldest part of the winery.

Bold, deep cherry red color. Ripe, complex aromas of wild berries and dark cherry fruit, opening out into spicy notes of oak with hints of cinnamon and vanilla. On the palate it starts smooth, elegant and warm with bramble fruit flavors, rounded tannins, balanced acidity and hints of toffee on the long, satisfying finish. Cellar for up to 3 years and this wine will continue to mature.

Game and other red meats, roast pork, paella, varied tapas or rich pasta dishes.
