Anciano Old Vines Tempranillo

"Full bodied with fine, soft tannins and well balanced acidity. Soft raspberry and summer fruits give way to a long, smooth, spicy finish."
A bold, modern expression of the Tempranillo varietal. An average vine age of well over 25 years, combined with the unique microclimate of the Sistema Ibérico has ensured great concentration of fruit from extremely small yields (circa 25hl/ha).

Mature Tempranillo vines are cultivated on chalk and clay soils situated on the slopes of Sierra de la Virgen and Sierra de Armantes in the Ribota valley of the Calatayud DO, at an altitude of 600-800m above sea level. Free draining soils combined with minimal rainfall and significant differences in day and night time temperature give rise to wines with excellent color and distinctive varietal aromas. Temperature controlled alcoholic fermentation for 7 days with pumpovers and delistage for colour and tannin extraction followed by a short maceration. Pressed off skins using only free run wine followed by full malolactic fermentation. The wine is then cold stabilised and given a fine earth filtration prior to membrane filtration. This wine is aged sur-lie in underground tanks for 18 months before bottling. No oak.
Mid to deep purple in color. Pronounced intense aromas of strawberry and raspberry, leather and spice varietal characters with complex notes of aniseed and vanilla. Full bodied with fine, soft tannins and well balanced acidity. Soft raspberry and summer fruits give way to a long, smooth, spicy finish. Cellar for up to 5 years.
