Our first venture beyond the Iberian Peninsula, we couldn’t resist the opportunity to work with one of South America’s top wineries, to create a couple of sensational Malbec-based blends. Already collecting accolades in wine competitions (eg Decanter World Wine Awards – 91 Points, Silver medal), we’re proud to welcome such incredible wines to the Anciano family.
DO: Uco Valley, Mendoza
Winemaker: Ruben Ruffo
Winery: La Agricola
Handpicked in the last week of March. Co-fermentation of Malbec and Viognier in a combination of stainless steel and concrete tanks for 20 days at 29°C. Selected yeasts from our vineyards. Maceration for 15 days. 40% of the wine ages in contact with French oak.
Dark violet and brilliant purple colors. Showing good complexity with typical Malbec aromas of ripe fruits such as figs, plums, blackberries and marmalade, combined with floral notes such as chamomile and linden. Elegant, full-bodied red wine with sweet tannins, good structure and long finish.
A wine to be paired with more full-flavored foods, for instance red meats or roasted pork. It’s also great with poultry and it works well sauces such as creamy pepper, sage and mushroom, melted cheese, and in particular, blue cheese.
